Quickstart

Create your workspace, run the onboarding wizard, and get a project with a working gate in about ten minutes.

This is the shortest path from nothing to a project that behaves like a real phase-gate project. Everything here works on the free plan.

Create your account

Go to cadence.alen.world/signup and sign up with an email address and password, or with Google.

Signing up creates two things at once: your user account, and the team workspace that owns everything you build. You are its first admin.

If a colleague has already created the workspace, do not sign up — wait for their invite email instead, and follow the link in it. Signing up separately creates a second, empty workspace with no way to merge the two.

Run the onboarding wizard

New accounts land in a four-step wizard: Welcome, About you, Template, Project.

The About you step asks what kind of work you run — new product development, manufacturing and production, supply chain and logistics, marketing and trade, regulatory and compliance, or something else — and how big your team is. It uses those answers to suggest a starting template.

You can skip the wizard at any point, and replay it later from the user menu at the bottom of the sidebar.

Start from a template

The wizard offers a template so your first project already has phases, tasks and gate criteria in it. Pick the closest one; it is faster to delete a phase than to invent five.

You can also start blank, or generate a template from a plain-English description of your process. See using templates.

Name the project and create it

Give the project a name, a description, a start date and a deadline. The description is worth writing properly — when you create a project from a template, cadence. uses it to rewrite the template's generic task titles and descriptions into something specific to this project.

Create the project. You now have a full phase structure, with the first phase started.

Look at the first gate

Open the first phase from the project sidebar. Below the tasks you will find its gate criteria — the conditions for leaving this phase.

Set one to Passed and add a line of evidence. Notice the Complete phase button at the top of the phase: it shows how many criteria are met, and stays disabled while any of them is still Incomplete. That is the entire mechanism.

Bring your team in

Open Team from the user menu and invite people by email. Invited users join your workspace, so they see the same projects, phases and tags.

Assign a few tasks. Everyone gets a personal task list at Home → My tasks, sorted so the urgent work is at the top.
